Reversing the Prohibition on Gun Rights

mlg424

Indicating a decisive move in federal firearms policy, Attorney General Pam Bondi has recently issued a new ruling that reverses the 32 year prohibition (enacted in 1992) by the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives) on restoring gun rights to those who have been denied firearm ownership because of violations of the law that led to certain convictions such as domestic violence, drug crimes, various other felonies as well as other disqualifying factors. This new ruling effectively means that individuals can now apply to the federal government to regain their Second Amendment rights despite the 1992 amendment that prohibited them from doing so.

The decision authorizes a new structure for a more obtainable and clear mechanism in regards to the processing of applications for the restoration of firearm rights under federal law. It is part of a recent attempt, via a presidential executive order, to analyze and perhaps modify any type of governance that encroaches on constitutional rights.

The ruling has been lauded by gun rights proponents, but denounced by those wary of restoring firearm rights to individuals with a criminal record. Regardless, the ruling will take immediate effect upon its being published in the Federal Register.
