FIREARM LAWS ®ULATIONS
NORTH CAROLINA
CONCEALED CARRY
It is lawful to carry a firearm in your car or vehicle.
Must have a permit to carry a concealed weapon in a vehicle.
Firearms are required to be seen openly by anyone approaching your vehicle (unless legally carried concealed with a permit).
OPEN CARRY
No license is required for the open carry of firearms.
You must be 18 years old.
MOTOR VEHICLE CARRY
Whether loaded or unloaded, it is lawful to carry a firearm in your car or vehicle.
Must have a permit to carry a concealed weapon in a vehicle.
Firearms are required to be seen openly by anyone approaching your vehicle.
Firearms cannot be easily accessible to other occupants.
You can legally keep a loaded firearm in a locked glove box or in the trunk, for example.
If you have a concealed carry license, you may keep a loaded handgun under your car seat or in an unlocked glove box.
NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT (NFA) FIREARMS
As long as ATF regulations are followed, it is lawful to have NFA firearms in North Carolina.
HUNTING
Suppressors (silencers) are allowed when hunting in North Carolina.
Handguns are allowed for hunting deer or bear.
FIREARM TRANSFERS & SALES
To buy or possess a handgun in North Carolina, you must be 18 years of age.
A handgun purchase permit or a concealed carry permit is required to buy a handgun.
Long guns do not require a permit to purchase.
There is no minimum age for possessing a long gun.
There is no waiting period.
Firearms are not required to be registered.
No limits on the number of firearms purchased at one time.
AMMUNITION REGULATIONS
No license is required to buy or possess ammunition in North Carolina.
An ammunition seller is not required to have a license.
No record of ammo sales are required.
Armor-piercing bullets are lawful.
Teflon-coated bullets are unlawful.
