FIREARM LAWS ®ULATIONS
NEBRASKA
CONCEALED CARRY
A Nebraska Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) is required for concealed carry.
Must be 21 years of age to carry a concealed firearm.
Must complete firearms training.
OPEN CARRY
In Nebraska, no permit or license is required for the open carry of firearms.
Must be 18 years of age to openly carry a firearm.
MOTOR VEHICLE CARRY
Loaded firearms are permitted in a car or vehicle, excepting loaded shotguns when traveling on a highway or a public road.
Firearms must be in plain sight.
Firearms are not required to be locked.
Some cities, including Omaha, require a permit to have a firearm in your vehicle, most cities do not require a permit.
NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT (NFA) FIREARMS
NFA items are legal in Nebraska so long as they are registered properly pursuant to the National Firearms Act.
HUNTING
Handguns, rifles and revolvers – .22 ammo or larger not allowed when hunting in Nebraska.
FIREARM TRANSFERS & SALES
Handguns Purchased From Dealer - Must have a purchase permit, a concealed carry permit, or complete a consent form along with a background check to buy a handgun from a gun dealer.
Handguns Purchased From Private Party – Must have a handgun certificate or a concealed carry permit with a background check.
Long Guns Purchased From Private Party – No documents or background check required.
Handguns – Must be 21 years of age to buy a handgun.
Handguns – Must be 18 years of age to possess a handgun.
Long Guns – Must be 18 years of age to buy a long gun.
There is no waiting period.
No registration of firearms is required, excepting in Omaha.
No limit to the amount of firearms purchased at one time.
AMMUNITION REGULATIONS
No license is required to possess, sell or buy ammo in Nebraska.
No law exists that requires a record of ammunition sales.
No prohibition against using armor-piercing bullets.
