FIREARM LAWS &REGULATIONS

COLORADO
CONCEALED CARRY

Must have a permit for concealed carry in Colorado.

OPEN CARRY

Colorado gun law does not require a permit for the open carry of a long gun or handgun.
Open carry is not allowed in Denver.

MOTOR VEHICLE CARRY

Loaded handguns are permitted in cars and vehicles, concealed or not.
Loaded rifles and shotguns are not permitted legally in vehicles.

NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT (NFA) FIREARMS

NFA items are legal in Colorado under state law if they are registered properly pursuant to the National Firearms Act.

HUNTING

You may carry a handgun while hunting for your own protection, as long as you are otherwise permitted to do so.
Elk hunting requires expanding bullets, minimum .24 caliber.

FIREARM TRANSFERS & SALES

No license or registration of firearms is required.
Must be 18 to possess a handgun.
No age limit on long guns.
No waiting period.
You may purchase multiple firearms at one time.
Private transfers on firearms must go through a licensed gun dealer.
Laws may vary from county to county and city to city.

AMMUNITION REGULATIONS

Large capacity magazines are prohibited (15 rounds or more).
